I wouldn’t say I have an obsession per se, but I do like a good tattoo. I currently have 6 markings all over my body and have been taught quite a few different ways to treat them. Every time I go to a new doctor’s appointment, I’m told something different about tattoo aftercare. As a result, I tried everything from diaper cream to SecondSkin Bandage ($11), but nothing helped me enjoy the healing phase of my tattoo. At first, my design felt very soft, but then it started to itch quite a bit, and only then did it finally heal and settle into the skin. However, I’ve often noticed that some of my recent designs have faded more than usual during this process, making the new pieces look like they’ve been around for years instead of weeks.

That’s why when I heard about the new Mad Rabbit Tattoo Repair Patches ($25), I was immediately interested. The brand claims that the patch is ideal for tattoo recovery and helps soothe the unpleasant effects after getting inked, so you won’t experience any burning, itching, or tenderness while using the patch. I am. It also has a moisturizing effect, making it suitable for sensitive skin types. So I started getting my seventh tattoo, just to try out a tattoo healing patch that seemed a little too good to be true. Please read my experience with them.

What I like about the Mad Rabbit Tattoo Repair Patch
To test the patch, I got a small tattoo of about 1.5 inches right above my ankle. After the appointment, the tattoo artist applied the patch to my skin and told me to use it for a minimum of two days and a maximum of four days, for as long as I felt most comfortable. The application was easy. She cut the patch to fit exactly the size of my ink, peeled off the protective layer and placed it over the design.
Immediately, I felt an incredible cooling sensation, similar to the feeling you get when you apply Vicks Vapor Rub to your chest, but without the burning sensation that follows. My tattoo, which used to be very tender and painful, immediately felt better. I didn’t experience any tingling or side effects to the patch, so I was ready to go on my next adventure as soon as I jumped off the tattoo artist’s table.
The best part about using these patches is how well they preserve the integrity of the ink. Every time I replaced a patch, I was impressed by how vibrant my tattoo remained, even after I stopped using the patch completely. I definitely think these have long term benefits when it comes to color retention.

As mentioned earlier, using the patch is very easy. Just cut to size, peel off the protective film and place on top of new ink. It will not stay in place naturally and must be secured with medical tape. I didn’t have any, so I folded the plastic wrap, wrapped it around the patch, and secured it with tape.
Things to consider before trying Mad Rabbit Tattoo Repair Patch
The biggest thing to consider with these patches is that they are not self-adhesive. After the appointment, I ran some errands. I live in New York City, so of course I walk quite a bit. By the time I got home, the patch was on top of the tattoo, not on it, so I had to reapply a whole new one. Additionally, these are supposed to be reapplied every 8 hours, which I feel leaves a little too much room for human error, and especially if proper hygiene protocols are not followed, leaving your new tattoo free of unnecessary germs. may be exposed to.

My tattoo after using the patch for 4 days.
Before getting this tattoo, I also remember not being very happy with my recent experience with Saniderm. Saniderm is an adhesive waterproof bandage commonly used by tattoo artists to keep new areas clean. Brand new tattoos left a sticky residue that was quite painful to remove. I also felt like my last tattoo ended up fading faster than it should have because I was dehydrated.
With that in mind, I can recognize the ingenuity behind this product and completely understand how it’s changing the body art landscape. Although there is still room for improvement, I would definitely recommend this product to a friend, especially if you have dry skin or are sensitive to tattoos.
